Can my dog get high from hemp oil?

No, your pet will not get high from Holistic Pet Health’s products. Our hemp oil comes from the hemp plant, which contains less than 0.3% THC. THC is the psychoactive part of the cannabis plant that most people associate with feeling “high”. Cannabinoids in our hemp oil for dogs and cats, including cannabidiol, will not cause psychoactive effects or a “high” feeling, but will cause a feeling of calm.

What is hemp?

“Hemp” is the non-psychoactive version of cannabis that has clear benefits as a superfood. In 2003, the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) patented the cannabinoids found in hemp as “antioxidants and neuroprotectants.”

Hemp has less than 1% of THC, the psychoactive component in the marijuana plant. Hemp oil and hemp seed oil have immense health benefits are often used to help the body shrink tumors, ease aches, and calm anxiety. Is hemp legal?

Yes! Hemp oil is legal in all 50 states, and thanks to the 2018 Farm bill, hemp is being grown in 40 states.

Marijuana is not legal in all 50 states because it contains higher amounts of THC. Hemp is different from marijuana because it has a lower amount of THC (the psychoactive compound associated with feeling “high”). While both hemp and marijuana are part of the cannabis plant family, hemp has less than 0.3% THC, but has larger quantities of other effective compounds (called cannabinoids).

Is your hemp oil just a product made for people with a dog label?

While Holistic Pet Health products are food-grade and safe for human consumption, they are all formulated specifically for pets. Working under advisement of chemists and veterinarians, our founder (and medical cannabis expert), Angela Ardolino, created our proprietary formulas to help dogs and cats heal naturally.

We take great pride in caring for your pet and we know your pet is an important part of your family. All of our hemp oil formulas were made with your pet in mind.

How is Holistic Pet Health different from the other guys?

Holistic Pet Health products are formulated specifically for pets by Angela Ardolino, a medical cannabis expert, under the advisement of chemists and veterinarians.

Our hemp products are made with American-grown hemp rather than using industrialized hemp oil from other countries. Additionally, Holistic Pet Health products are full-spectrum rich-hemp extracts – not isolate, distillate, or products labeled “pure hemp” or “No THC.” Full-spectrum means that no cannabinoids were removed during the extraction or manufacturing process. Our hemp oils include numerous cannabis compounds, including a small amount of THC (0.3% or less).

Holistic Pet Health products contain NO toxic thinning agents, like propylene glycol or ethylene glycol, and do NOT contain any flavor additives or harmful ingredients. The essential oils used in Holistic Pet Health products are pure, sourced organically in the U.S., and our hemp-rich products are derived from high-resin cannabis grown sustainably in accordance with the certified regenerative organic standards.

Pet owners know exactly what they are getting with Holistic Pet Health products. Our bottles indicate the amount of  hemp oil per serving – not just the total cannabinoid content for the entire bottle. Can my dog overdose on hemp oil? Can cats overdose on hemp oil?

Your pet cannot overdose on full spectrum hemp extract oil. It is perfectly safe to administer as much full spectrum hemp extract as you need to until you see results. The worst that can happen is that your pet may get diarrhea or may become sleepy if you administer more than needed.

How long does hemp oil take to start working?

Each pet and ailment are different, so the reaction times to hemp oil may vary.

For situational anxiety and pain, you should see a change within 5-10 minutes, although it may take as many as 15-30 minutes. If you don’t see a change within a half hour, administer another dose of hemp oil for dogs and cats. Remember: your pet cannot overdose, and because every animal is different, it may take a bit of tweaking to find the right amount of hemp oil for your specific dog or cat. The best way to determine the right dose is to go by your pet’s ailment and adjust from there. Based on Angela Ardolino’s education and training in medical cannabis, case studies, and research, we recommend the following dosages for dogs and cats:

Noise, travel, or situational anxiety – Start with 9 mg before the triggering event. Wait 15-20 minutes and if your pet is still anxious, administer another 9 mg until you see results. Holistic Pet Health’s CALM tincture contains 9 mg of full spectrum hemp extract per 1 mL serving (1 dropper).

General anxiety – Start with a daily dose of at least 9 mg. If you don’t notice a difference within one to two weeks, increase the dosage to 15 – 25 mg daily. Holistic Pet Health’s CALM tincture contains 9 mg of full spectrum hemp extract per 1 mL serving (1 dropper).

Arthritis – Start with 9 – 12 mg daily. If you don’t notice a difference in one to two weeks, increase by another 9 – 12 mg daily until you see results. You’ll know you found the correct dose when you see your dog run faster, jump higher, and become puppy-like again. Holistic Pet Health’s EASE tincture contains 9 mg of full spectrum hemp extract per 1 mL serving (1 dropper).

Allergies – Start with 9 – 12 mg daily. If you don’t notice a difference within one to two weeks, increase by another 9 – 12 mg daily. Note: most often, allergies are caused by diet, and the diet should be altered to fully resolve the issue. Holistic Pet Health’s EASE tincture contains 9 mg of full spectrum hemp extract per 1 mL serving (1 dropper).

Aches and Pains – Start with 9 – 18 mg situationally or daily. If your dog is still in pain after 10 – 15 minutes, administer another 9 – 18 mg. Holistic Pet Health’s EASE tincture contains 9 mg of full spectrum hemp extract per 1 mL serving (1 dropper).

Cancer – For best results, administer 50 – 100 mg daily. However, to get started we suggest starting with 35 – 50 mg daily and increase if needed. Holistic Pet Health’s HEAL tincture contains 37 mg of full spectrum hemp extract per 1 mL serving (1 dropper).

Seizures – Start with 35 – 50 mg daily and/or during seizure activity to stop seizures from occurring. Please consult your veterinarian if your pet is on phenobarbital before weaning. Holistic Pet Health’s HEAL tincture contains 37 mg of full spectrum hemp extract per 1 mL serving (1 dropper).

Autoimmune Diseases – Start with 35 – 50 mg daily and increase if needed. Holistic Pet Health’s HEAL tincture contains 37 mg of full spectrum hemp extract per 1 mL serving (1 dropper).

What is the dosage for hemp dog treats?

We recommend 4 – 6 Holistic Pet Health salmon or chicken treats per day to start. Each Hemp Dog treat contains 3 – 4 mg of hemp, so the effect will be more noticeable if you are combining the Hemp Dog treats with Holistic Pet Health tinctures. A dog or cat cannot not have too much hemp  oil, so you don’t have to worry about giving them too much.

How do I administer hemp oil tinctures?

For the fastest and most thorough absorption, lift the lip and apply dose directly onto the gums, as the most direct way into the bloodstream. If added to food, the medicine may not be as effective and can take significantly longer (30-45 min.) to reach the bloodstream as it works its way through the gastrointestinal system.

Unlike many traditional oral medications, research has proven that hemp is effectively and quickly absorbed into the bloodstream. A study conducted by the Department of Pharmacy, School of Pharmacy at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel concluded that: “Hemp was observed to have a large volume of distribution [in dogs studied].” In a study conducted by the Department of Veterinary Medical Sciences, University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy, dogs were found to have a substantial amount of receptors in their endocannabinoid system, specifically in the spine, which allows dogs to more effectively use hemp.

In other words, when administered correctly, full spectrum hemp extract is extremely effective.

How many months will one bottle of Holistic Pet Health's full spectrum hemp extract tincture last?

It depends on what you’re treating and how often, but usually each 2-ounce bottle of Holistic Pet Health hemp oil for dogs lasts 1.5 – 2 months, while the 1-ounce HEAL Hemp Dog Oil bottle lasts about 1 – 1.5 months.

Can I use hemp dog products on my cat?

Yes! Holistic Pet Health products are safe for all mammals, including dogs, cats, bunnies, horses, and other furry friends. Holistic Pet Health makes a line of hemp products for cats, which can be found online and in stores.

Can I take Holistic Pet Health products?

Holistic Pet Health’s products are safe for human consumption. Although it is a human grade product, we formulated Holistic Pet Health products specifically for pets, which means there is no added flavor.

It is safe for my pet to lick hemp salves?

Yes! All of Holistic Pet Health’s ingredients are all-natural and safe for your pet to lick.

My dog used hemp oil, but I am still seeing them fall into old habits. What now?

The typical reaction for most dogs and cat is that the pet will become sleepy and take a nap. But, sometimes old habits die hard. Even after you have treated and cured the original issue (for example, using REMEDY salve on a rash which healed as a result, but your dog still wants to scratch the area), your pet may still hold onto old behaviors.

Continue using Holistic Pet Health’s hemp oil for dogs to achieve maximum results. Your pet will learn that they no longer need to conduct their old behaviors. Although our products work quickly, dogs may have formed behavioral habits over the course of years, and it may take some time for them to undo those bad habits.

Does each hemp oil do something different?

Each of our hemp oil formulas was created to achieve a different result. Although they all contain full-spectrum hemp oil, each tincture and salve has other all natural ingredients, like essential oils, to help your pet achieve maximum results.

Where does Holistic Pet Health hemp come from and how is it extracted?

Holistic Pet Health’s hemp is grown at our farms in the U.S. We use the CO2 extraction method, which means that there are no chemical solvents and we preserve as much of the plant as possible with the safest extraction method. This means that your pet is never ingesting alcohol, ethanol, butane, or hexane, which can be harmful to pets and people alike (after all, nobody wants to ingest the ingredients in gasoline!).

Every batch of our hemp oil for dogs is tested by a third-party lab testing company so that we can verify the exact contents of the product. If the number of cannabinoids are not what we claim, we discard the product and start from scratch.

Once each batch has cleared our lab testing, our products are shipped to our home office in Tampa, FL, where we test every batch for quality and consistency. We have a strict rule that if we would not give the product to our own dogs, we will not give it to your dogs. Because of this rigorous process, you can rest assured that by the time the product is on the shelf or in your hands, it is the absolute highest quality available.

All of our the essential oils used in our products are also grown and extracted in the United States. We oversee the entire process, from plant to bottle.
